This is not really intended to be a commentary on the fact that a few million people in Minnesota actually voted for a vile human being like Al Franken. To elect someone who regularly spewed such vitriolic trash on his radio show is living proof that Washington has sunk to new lows. Although the “right” has its own characters, at least the Michael Savages of the world have the sense to not run for office.
The people of Minnesota have elected other oddities to their high political offices, the most notable being former wrestler Jessie Ventura. And certainly such an election may have consequences for the people of the Land o’ Lakes, but not for the US in general. But this time the people MN have perpetrated their little joke in the rest of us, and the Democratic Party went along with it.
But disregard Franken’s past indiscretions & take a look at a few things he stands for, from his own website:
http://www.alfranken.com/pages/higher_education
I suggest checking out 3 issues: college education, where Franken proposes a $5,000 refundable tax credit for any student whose family makes ……wait for it…up to $200,000 per year. He also seems outraged that college tuition, room & board and such things increase every year. Next, health care. He demands Universal coverage under a single-payer system, federally-funded. And lastly, workers’ rights. He proudly will not just sign but co-sponsor the “Employee Free Choice Act” AKA Card Check, which will basically eliminate the secret ballot in union elections. So there are some of the things he stands for. And let’s see the financial issues:
http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2008/05/01/accountants/
Franken failed to pay more than $50,000 in taxes in 17 different states where he earned. He blamed his accountant. He took no responsibility for the problem of his own finances. He broke the law & faces penalties & fines. This brings up the issue that Franken has no idea of the concept of personal responsibility for one’s actions & does not mind passing the buck instead of recognizing his own bad judgment. Maybe he will fit in at congress…
On November 3 in a radio interview, then-Senator Obama spoke glowingly of a would-be Senator Franken & his importance in carrying out the Democratic agenda over the next 4 years:
“I will say that your candidate in Minnesota, Al Franken, is going to be an important part of a coalition that brings about change. He’s really, I think, in this to fight for working families. I’m looking forward to seeing him serve in the Senate.
And if people are looking for fundamental change over the next eight years, then I think an Obama-Biden ticket, Al Franken in the Senate, is going to be the best answer for working families all across the state.”
And I guess he said it with a straight face…
What is the REAL issue here?
Al Franken’s own words show him to be a socialist. He has said hateful, vile things about his opponents. He has physically attacked some of them. He has proved himself to be a far-left zealot. His attention is to shock & provoke, not to have serious discussion about issues & solving problems. Just read one of his books.
And the Democratic Party supports this man. They put him forth as the best the people of Minnesota can do. They will sacrifice the integrity of the Senate. They will sacrifice the history of the great Americans this body produced – from JFK & Warren Harding to Daniel Webster & Henry Clay - & add a man like Al Franken. They will swallow dignity & pride and come before the American people and tell the disgusting lie that this man Al Franken deserves the title. They will sell the traditions of this country down the river along with the traditions of the some of the most intense debates that shaped our nation. There was the Missouri Compromise to keep the different factions of the country from destroying it over the Western territories. The Compromise of 1850 to hold the fragile country together in the face of slavery. There was also the Civil Rights Act of 1964, to help correct the wrongs of the past. Decisions which men agonized over have been made in the Senate’s hallowed halls. If you look at the history of the Senate, some of the men hated one another. They referred to each other as devils, rotten-hearted scoundrels, blackguards, and such. (Personally I would prefer that to constantly hearing “my good friend from the state of…”) But they also would have fought & bled to keep this country together in the face of disaster. And some did.
And now the Democrats give us Al Franken to trod the halls of that hall. And so they are willing to foist this disaster on the people of the United States, not just the people of MN, and for what? For 60 votes. So that they can dictate what will happen to the country with no opposition. So that there authority cannot be questioned. Barack Obama had said he wanted to bring a new spirit bipartisanship to Washington. If the Democrats are truly ushering in a new spirit of bipartisanship, why are they so hell-bent on 60 votes? Why is that threshold, which renders them answerable to no one, so important?
In a way, I guess that does mean change. The Democratic Party has morphed into an organization that will sacrifice the good of America & the history of our nation’s institutions for the sake of absolute power. Why else would they stand for allowing a low-life like Al Franken to pollute their party’s image?
Of course, we could say that the people are getting what they deserve – at least for the next few years – by electing this guy. Do the American people really deserve this government? Perhaps – if it teaches them a lesson about being careful what they wish for. But in this blogger’s opinion, Al Franken is just too low to go. Franken brings to mind the Roman Emperor Claudius. Claudius was not really well-liked or respected by his family. When he was dragged out into the streets & proclaimed Emperor, his sister sneered & said it was a shame that the Roman people would have to suffer an indignity so far below their worth. Eventually Claudius invaded Britain, married his niece, put 235 Senators to death who disagreed with him, & was finally killed by his wife who fed him poisonous mushrooms – so her son Nero could take over. I am sure the tenure of Franken would be no less interesting. Parallels?

I was not going to watch The O’Reilly factor after the election because I thought he would be saying this is a mandate against the Republicans & conservative principles, like I have heard the Fox “All-Stars” say for a few weeks now. They intimated that Republicans lost because although they WERE the party of Reagan, it’s a different time, & the Republicans will lose even bigger if they do not accept illegal immigrants, focus on doling out health care & other entitlement programs. So I was surprised to see O’Reilly’s post-election talking points. He did congratulate Obama, but he also mentioned something I agree with 100%. That Obama owes this election to fear.
http://www.billoreilly.com/show;jsessionid=CADD784D224D02DD36539539E8301683?action=viewTVShow&showID=2122#1
So many young people that vote said it was a vote against “fear”. They steadfastly cling to the idea that this election was about fear vs. hope, & they chose hope and change and not fear and intimidation. But what was the election really about? Fear. People DID vote on fear. They fear that the economy is uncertain & they want the comforting arms of the government to wrap around them during this difficult time. But the arms of the government are not easily pried away once they grab hold of individuals & their income.
Fear is a powerful motivator and people were willing to overlook Obama’s dubious affiliations with individuals, his meteoric rise to power with very little scrutiny & his far-left stance in the Primaries. He positioned himself slightly more moderate during the main election, but still had those unscripted slip-ups that showed his leanings. The people feared for their future & they therefore elected a man that promised hope & change, but whom they know very little about. He also has not specified how all of these new programs will be paid for, except for the continual references to taxing the rich & corporate America. I guess in all of the fear, the idea has been lost that wealthy Americans & corporations provide the jobs, and a poor person never created a job.
Moveon.org has basically said to Obama that they got him elected, and he certainly did run on a leftist/redistributionist agenda. A Democratic analyst on Fox News said that Pelosi & Reid are “pragmatists”. I do not believe that in any way, shape, or form. Pelosi has shown willingness to sacrifice America’s security to the far left interests with her direction on two issues in particular - the war in Iraq & the Democratic stubbornness on the drilling & energy issue.
Pelosi & the Democrats have already said, in a low-key scattered sort of way, that they are going to have power & the time would not be now to worry about the deficit and the spending problems, but to implement their agenda. Barney Frank among others has mentioned this. Obama & the Democrats hammered the GOP for running up deficits & “war spending” and such. Now the shoe is on the other foot & we will see what happens.
Obama’s claims that fear will not rule the day are a bit laughable in hindsight. I read it like this: People are afraid because the economy is in shambles. They fear they may lose a job or not be able to pay the mortgage. Obama plays the fear like a fiddle. And a person hears the voice of Obama in their sleep: “I’m here. The government is here. We’ll help. You’ll keep your home. You’ll send your kids to college. You’ll have a job”.

I hope you like my play on the Clinton campaign slogan…..
President-Elect Obama will have to deal with problems in the Middle East & Far East, including Iran’s nuclear program, a possible Israeli-Lebanon war, Syrian terror aggression, & the issue of Pakistan. While the P-E’s attention is focused on domestic matters which Obama was elected to “solve”, it seems as though every foreign policy debacle is about to drop squarely on his desk. I have posted on this blog news about Syrian aggression into Iran & harboring of terrorist groups, and the Israeli purchase of “bunker buster” bombs & the F35 fighters to deliver them. And now we have another wrinkle. Apparently news has surfaced that just before they were removed from the list of Terror-Sponsors, North Korea attempted to fly over Indian air space to deliver gyroscopes & other missile tracking/launching equipment to Iran. A last-minute call from Washington closed Indian air space & the flight was thwarted.

The future President will undoubtedly be tested, and not by a bunch of UAW whiners claiming they cannot get by on $58 an hour instead of $78 an hour. Perhaps this is why he is surrounding himself with more Clinton advisors and insiders than the Clintons did, and not his fellow “community organizers” whom Obama previously claimed would be advisers to his future administration. Obama seems to have realized what most of you reading this already did: that he has no clue what he is doing on a world stage & practicality demands he surround himself with the same-old same-old. How ‘bout that change!

Michael Steele, former Lt Gov of Maryland & former candidate for MD governor, is reputed to be running for RNC chairman. Let’s hope we get some new people in there. Is there really any career where you can do such as disastrous job & still be employed? (outside of Washington, I mean)Time for a new RNC chairman. The current crop did not get the job done.

It’s time to go RINO hunting. Do you agree with my list or is it too harsh? Or perhaps too obvious & there are others I have omitted…. These are known as RINOs – Republicans In Name Only – a name coined by Los Angeles conservative Celeste Greig. So here is my list of REPUBLICANS TO GET RID OF:
Sen. Lindsey Graham (SC)
Sen. Chuck Hagel (NE)
Sen. Dick Lugar (IN)
Sen. John McCain (AZ) **
Sen. Olympia Snowe (ME)
The “Governator” Schwarzeneggar
Rep. Chris Shays…..oops no more! Thanks people of CT
Sen. Ted Stevens (AK)***
Sen. Arlen Specter (PA)
Sen. Susan Collins (ME)
Gov. Tom Ridge (PA –former)
I know there are more of you in the House, too.
**(the old one, not the new one. If the conservative McCain shows up, the one that was going to revisit ANWR, freeze spending, go to nuclear power, Cut the cap gains tax further, and allow competition for health insurance, we’ll take him)
*** We do want the race to go in his favor, as he will have to step down & Gov. Palin will pick his replacement. That’s a good thing….She’s not a RINO
It has always been GOP policy to let Republican incumbents run in their districts in order not to lose the seat & therefore change the landscape of the House or Senate. The GOP throws their support behind these candidates no matter how many times they trash their own party. This is a policy that appears to hopefully have run its course. Lose the dead weight. It is time to allow the seat to be lost & get true Republicans to run. I think we have seen now, that RINO’s, with only lukewarm support from true Republicans, have outlived their usefulness for the party. And if you need more proof, check out some of the states where Libertarians caused Republicans to lose – such as NC – probably out of disgust with the direction of the Republican party.
And finally, to the “old guard” Republicans who apparently did not like the fact that Governor Palin was the VP choice & their opinions were left out in the cold, your time of usefulness is coming to a close also. Those Republicans who trashed Palin because she was an outsider & not part of their little Washington political & social scene have forgotten what being a Republican is all about: it’s not about being an elitist; it’s about ethical government, of which the natural result is SMALLER government; it’s about the rights of individuals to own property & defend that property & their own lives if necessary; it’s about the right an individual has to keep the money he/she earns; it’s about defending our borders & our nation form external threats & terrorism; it’s about local control of schools & a choice in that control; it’s about preserving the Judeo-Christian principles upon which the country is founded; and finally, it’s about self-reliance - for our country & ourselves. As far I can tell Sarah Palin represents all of those things. And the Republicans who criticized Palin & don’t adhere to these principles themselves will soon hopefully find themselves looking for another party.

THIS LETTER WAS WRITTEN BY THE CHAIRMAN OF MY LOCAL PARTY, BILL WRIGHT & REPRESENTS THE JOB IN FRONT OF US
Fellow Republicans,
My usual greeting to you in my emails is “Folks”, but today I believe it is more appropriate to address this correspondence as “Fellow Republicans.” We are certainly disappointed at the election results yesterday from the White House to the Courthouse. But today is a new day and a new beginning for the Republican Party.
In his victory speech last night, Barack Obama said that this was a “defining moment”. He was right, but in a way misunderstood by himself and his dedicated followers. It is a defining moment for the Republican Party. This has been a difficult and disappointing year for Republican candidates and the Republican Party. But it must also be a wake up call if the Republican Party is to remain a viable national political party. In the quest to win elections, we have supported candidates and positions which are often indifferent to the conservative principles of the Party. We can no longer accept and by default embrace as a necessary evil, positions by the Party or candidates that are contrary to the principles of our Party and the tenets of our Constitution. Over the last few years, we have seen numerous assaults on that great founding document, the very cornerstone of the foundation that undergirds this nation. Our Constitution sets forth the role of government at every level and more importantly, the boundaries of that government. These lines have become blurred and almost indistinguishable as government has assumed greater control over our lives resulting in more expansive government, more government regulation, higher taxes and ultimately less individual freedom. Republicans are not immune from their share of blame in government’s expansion. We can no longer ignore the dangerous direction that our Party is headed. Ronald Reagan understood that government is not the solution, but is in fact the problem. Our national Party has allowed itself to be drawn into the dangerous game of one upping the Democrats as to which party can give more and more to the American people. This badly flawed idea ignores the important fact that government produces absolutely nothing, but can only give out to some what it takes from others. The Founders never intended government to be everything to everybody. This disastrous game cannot be won and archives absolutely nothing except for creating a nation of entitlement minded citizens supported by less and less working Americans. I have used this quote before but today in light of the election results, it’s relevance is more important to the future of freedom in this great nation than ever before: Ronald Reagan said: “Freedom is not something to be secured in any one moment of time. We must struggle to preserve it everyday. And freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” As a freedom loving people, we cannot continue to follow the path that one party openly embraces and that ours reluctantly follows. General Colin Powell, in his recent endorsement of Barack Obama, said that the Republican Party had too small a tent. I could not disagree more with the General. I have no problem opening the tent to more people, but unfortunately the idea of “growing” the Party has clouded our vision of what our Party stands for and what our Constitution sets forth as the proper role of government, especially it’s limitations. Again, we have too readily accepted and embraced candidates and positions contrary to our own beliefs, all in the name of winning elections. Compromising our principles to win elections is not only morally repugnant but a certain path to political obscurity.
Now IS the “defining moment” for the Republican Party. We must renew and restore the values and principles that once characterized the Party “of the people, by the people and for the people.” Strong, bold conservative leadership is required if we are to be successful. The old adage of “lead or get out of the way” may sound harsh but necessary if we are restore this Party as a champion of individual freedoms and rights. Leaders who support “more of the same” must step aside or be replaced if we are to be successful. The Republican Party must embrace and deliver very clearly a message of limited government, less government regulation, lower taxes and more individual freedom. It must be our mission to recruit conservative candidates and Party leaders and prepare for the 2010 midterm elections. Our message cannot be confused with the more intrusive, less individual freedom doctrine espoused by the Democrats. I would rather lose an election standing strong on principle than to win by testing and posturing according to the prevailing winds. If the Republican Party does not begin to stand once again for it’s principles and those of our Constitution, them we have advanced our own demise. Now is OUR “defining moment.” Our losses yesterday give us a great opportunity to begin the rebuilding effort necessary to move this nation towards a path of prosperity grounded in the belief that it is the individual, not government that makes this nation great. A national security policy that secures our national borders as our Constitution mandates. A sensible energy policy based on facts, not emotion and covert political agendas of more intrusive, anti-capitalist government through extreme environmental policies. Our Party has embraced too many policies for far too long that are in stark contrast to the principles of our platform. We must get out of our comfort zones and begin the rebuilding and restoration efforts necessary to return our Party as the standard bearer of conservative principles for which it once stood. There will be some who will disagree with what I have written in this email. I challenge you to simply look at the cover page of the N&R this morning. The headline reads, “Obama Triumphs”.
A very concerned lady called me earlier this week prior to the election. She asked if I thought this nation could survive an Obama Presidency and Democratic Congress. My answer was an emphatic “yes”. This nation is stronger than any one individual. We have survived bad and ineffective leaders before, weathered numerous wars, economic crises and national emergencies. But we have always survived due in no small part to the ingenious document called our Constitution, the vision of the Founders of this great nation and the character and perseverance of the American citizen. Our Constitution sets the limits of government, outlining the necessary restraints on that government. It has served us well. But the Republican Party must now redirect itself, rebuild and restore the trust of the American people in our Party and the principles that we acknowledge as the basis of our freedoms. That effort must begin today. This is indeed “Our Defining Moment.”

With the appointment of Rahm Emmanuel as his Chief-of-Staff, Obama has chosen a man who is described by some as moderate, by others as a moderate with a partisan streak, but affectionately known by his own party & the LA Times as “Rahmbo”.
And….he once sent a dead fish to a pollster he didn’t like & told Republicans they could “f” off. It’s gonna be a hell of a 4 years.

Senator Evan Bayh (D) was on Hannity & Colmes tonight & said something great…When discussing Senator Lieberman’s (I) fate, & whether he will be welcomed back to the Democratic fold to caucus, or possibly be stripped of his status as a committee chair, he said Lieberman has gone a little too far in questioning Obama’s patriotism. I would have to go back to Lieberman’s speeches line-by-line to find that, but Bayh tried to explain he didn’t feel retribution was the best decision. He said the Democratic caucus would need Lieberman for health care & other issues. And so he hinted that a nice little apology from Lieberman would get him back in the good graces. For now, Harry Reid said he will not suspend Lieberman, but the pressure will be on & it will be coming if Lieberman does not tow the line.
Ironically, the real interesting thing Bayh said was this……that Lieberman had gotten caught up in an emotional time & probably said/done a few things while he was caught up in the emotiom of the moment, and now, more or less, cooler heads would prevail.
I wonder if the Senator realizes the true irony of his words…..

Thanks for reading those of you new to TYR.
The Guilford YR’s & I greatly appreciate all of our new readers.
Well, I have spent some time trying to dig some of this up, because there are so many different figures, stats & such being thrown about, I was hoping to at least give some of you something to talk about to young undecided voters. Perhaps I should mention it to my college students, but having been teaching 19 & 20 year olds for the last 9 years, I have to say most of them just don’t have the capability to think about their future, the idea of paying taxes, the notion of financial security. They think their University diploma is the ticket to a secure life. Well, only if life gives them a study guide before a test like I always do.
Which brings me to reality & what is happening out there with 401K’s It is the younger generation that is going to pay for what happens (or doesn’t) in the next few years.
So many older voters have been swayed by Obama hammering away on Social Security. Democrats have been promising that Republicans will harm SS for the last 40 years, and now they congratulate themselves on having stopped Bush’s “dangerous privatization”. Obama recently fed some whoppers at a rally in FL: that McCain would agree with Bush to privatize SS & half the elderly women in FL would be living in poverty (!); that the stock market turmoil would have bankrupted seniors if Bush’s plan had gone through; that his plan of raising the payroll tax cap would help save SS.
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/obamas_social_security_whopper.html
It is a bunch of whoppers, since no one near to retirement age would have been allowed to participate, let alone persons already drawing SS. The truth is only a small portion would have been invested in private accounts. Bush was encouraging self-determination while Obama’s plan wants to rely strictly on government to secure your future. Check out some of the truths behind Obama’s plan here, in his own words:
http://www.ontheissues.org/Economic/Barack_Obama_Social_Security.htm
Halfway down the page you will notice Obama wants to raise the cap on the payroll tax (currently about $97,000) which amounts to a huge tax increase on those making less than Obama’s constant “$250,000” figure. Hillary Clinton even called him on some of his figures, but no one else ever seems to do so.
Halfway down the page you will also find the terms “wealthy” & “fair share” within a few words of each other. You will also see a section on Obama’s plan noting that he plans to make “retirement savings automatic”. If anyone knows what this means, please forward it to me.
The main thing is that SS for those of or near retirement age is not the problem, but Obama, WITH A VERY CLEVER SLEIGHT OF HAND, is making it the issue. By focusing on what would happen to Social Security if McCain & the Republicans are in power and emphasizing that it would be a disaster, he is deftly taking the attention off a plan Democrats have considered for nationalizing 401K’s – which is what most of us will realistically have to retire on. The real problem will hit like a ton of bricks for those of us in our 20’s, 30’s, & 40’s. And the problem is that it appears Obama will use the “risky Bush plan” & the “volatility of the private sector markets” to slowly erode our 401K freedom. To slowly take away that golden future that we are putting in so many hours for right now. By over-emphasizing the problems & dangers of Social Security now, he is working on parlaying this notion into the idea that 401K’s are a risky proposition that must have some sort of mandatory government protection. Can’t happen here? Just take a look at Argentina. NO ONE is talking about it. Argentina isn’t Venezuela. It isn’t Cuba. It has some socialist tendencies, some capitalist ones. But the Argentine government just seized PRIVATE pension plans in the name of protecting the workers. Their cash-strapped government can now use those funds.
To very little fanfare or publicity, a woman by the name of Teresa Ghilarducci, a professor at the New School of Social Research testified in front of congress that the government should create a system that guarantees a retirement plan for every American (an Obama tenet, see above) The government should end the preferential treatment for 401K’s and instead have GRA’s (government created Guaranteed Retirement Accounts. I will pass over the irony of this in light of how the government has handled Social Security). According to the plan, the government will invest $600 a year (adjusted to inflation) in the account for you, and you add an additional 5%. You get a 3% return, period. And so the hard work you did to invest in your retirement and be able to live the good life after a long career is in the government’s hands. Eek. But this is, of course, fair. You can read about it here:
http://www.usnews.com/blogs/capital-commerce/2008/10/23/would-obama-dems-kill-401k-plans.html
What this really does is take away your retirement freedom. It takes away the incentive to put in that extra time so you can enjoy life after the kids are grown & gone. It takes away your decisions. It will be disastrous for an already shaky stock market. It will reinforce the most un-American idea that our citizens should not have confidence that, in the end, our markets are strong & dependable, though they may go through occasional shaky times. It breeds something that has never been all that American:
Mediocrity.
If people still insist on voting for this guy, they had better start paying attention to the policies that he is trying to slip in. While everyone is focused on “the economy” you just may find your future sucked right down the drain. Think it can’t happen? If Obama is elected with a Supermajority in both houses, it sure the heck can.

We won’t refer to them as Limousine Liberals, because that is for the seriously rich – you know, the Hollywood actors raking in 7 or 8 figures, not 6. The tycoons who have inherited millions and lose count of them, so one or two less will not matter. The Manhattan hedge fund investment banker (although perhaps not anymore) who thinks Republicans are just a bunch of right wing nut jobs. I can excuse them. Their wealth & their insulated lives will not really change regardless of who lives in the White House, and they can feel good about themselves that they are so much smarter and solely responsible for saving the rest of us from the evil two-headed Republicans. I am talking about the Upper-Middle Class Working Wealthy. The “Lexus-Liberal”. This applies to the other parts of the US not just my home state of NC.
How many of you have been at the store recently and seen an attractive woman mid-30’s to 40’s, with a few well-dressed kids in toe, taking her keys out of an expensive designer bag & loading up the SUV with organic, locally grown produce & free-range vegan fed eggs in a reusable “green” grocery bag? Well, it may be a caricature but we have seen them out there. We have seen them in the parking lots. And they have Obama stickers on their gas guzzlers. Have you ever wondered why on earth these people are voting for Obama? I can understand them voting Democrat in general or even for Hillary who, for all her universal entitlement speeches, was a pragmatist at heart. She would have voted for whatever kept her in power. Maybe in those cases they are just misguided. But Obama? The guy has already proven time & again he is for the redistribution of wealth. He is not pro-small business, and he has already promised to sign the card-check bill into law, which will allow employees of large companies to unionize practically overnight. These are not policies that are pro-growth, pro-wealth, pro-middle class. The Middle Class relies on small & large businesses for employment, and Obama’s tax, trade, & union polices will be detrimental to both.
The upper middle-class families in the upscale neighborhoods are making a good living in America. Their families bring home 6 figures, from $125,000 to $300,000. They are doctors, lawyers, business owners, Senior VP’s & such. And for some inexplicable reason, they are about to vote in a man that can destroy their standard of living. Because no matter what figure they are tossing out nowadays, Obama’s policies are coming after anyone in a 6 figure range.
http://www.nypost.com:80/seven/10292008/news/politics/biden_blows_fuzzy_tax_math_135787.htm
There is a book known as “The Imposter Phenomenon” that chronicles how extremely hard-working & successful people do not feel as though they have earned their success, but rather it is due to luck, being in the right place at the right time, and other such intangibles. They have a self-loathing or self-doubt that convinces them their hard work & sacrifice & right decision-making did not lead to their success & therefore they do not really deserve their wealth & lifestyle. Check out if you are a self-loather with this nifty little quiz:
http://www.kalimunro.com/self-quiz_imposter.html
If so perhaps Obama IS the guy for you, because he feels your success IS the result of luck and that you should share this luck with others less “fortunate” than you. He never mentions self-sacrifice & hard work, or earning wealth in any capacity. He feels that luck & giving others the “breaks” you had will even the playing field. I personally will not vote for anyone who thinks my success is due to “breaks”. And so they vote for a man who promises to level the playing field, to alleviate the guilt they feel over their “undeserved” success. Obama can make them feel good again, that they are helping those less fortunate souls who just need a slight break to be just like them. Then they do not have to feel guilty about having so much when others have so little. They do not have to look the other way at the man on the street corner with the sign or transients wandering downtown. They do not have to feel bad about buying organic $5 a quart milk & $8 a six pack beer while the single mom buys generic milk by the gallon & baloney for her kids. And they don’t have to feel guilty as they pass the public school kids waiting in the cold at the bus stop while they cruise by in the Lexus SUV on the way to Greensboro Day School. The vote for Obama helps them give to those groups– without really having to give up any of their own wealth & success. After all, they didn’t really earn that success, right? Or does it really mean that?
I wonder….we all know Obama’s policies are going to hit those people making $125, $150,000. Just as was tried (half-heartedly) under the Clintons, Obama will forcefully try to implement a one-time 15% tax on the equity in their homes. So maybe that’s a $45,000 tax. There goes little Johnny’s tuition at that private school. Let’s roll your 401K into a single-distribution program with a 3% per year over inflation increase. There goes the retirement you have been working for all of these years. Socialized medicine is here. There goes your great health insurance; if you are a doctor, perhaps your standard of living, too. (My husband’s cousin is a gynecologist in Rome & does not make enough with their socialized medicine to have her own home.) Let’s raise your income taxes, capital gains taxes, and also payroll taxes if you pay those, too. There goes growing your business, investing money to leave to your kids, the vacation you were planning on taking. It all goes to the IRS now. And if your company moves offshore because they fear unions or Obama’s protectionist & anti-business policies, there goes your job. No more organic milk, fancy micro-brew beer or free-range chicken. You will have to live like everyone else that has not quite achieved the level of success you have achieved. And if you have no job, you will probably have to move out of the fancy McMansion community. But as Obama himself has said, this is the way to bring about “fairness”.
I wonder….if one or even all of these things happens to the Lexus Liberal, will they still be so happy to have put in office a man that is punishing their success? Will “fairness” still be upmost in their mind? Or perhaps they will realize that in the end, it is unfair that all of their hard work and success is being taken away from them, and it is they themselves who are to blame.
